Input and Output Devices
Input Devices :-
The devices which are used to
input the data and the programs in the computer are known as “Input
Devices“. or Input device can
read data and convert them to a form that a computer can use. Output Device can
produce the final product of machine processing into a form usable by humans.
It provides man to machine communication. Input device accept the data from the
user and convert into the form accepted by computer.
Example of input device are:
Keyboard, Mouse, Web Cam, Microphone, Scanner, Track ball, Joystick,
Digitizer etc.
[1] Keyboard :-
Keyboard is most common input
device is used today. The data and instructions are input by typing on the
keyboard. The message typed on the keyboard reaches the memory unit of a
computer. It’s connected to a computer via a cable. Apart from alphabet and
numeral keys, it has other function keys for performing different functions.
Nowadays it has round about 104 keys.
[2] Mouse :-
A computer mouse is
a handheld hardware input device that controls a cursor in
a GUI (graphical
user interface) for pointing, moving and selecting text, icons, files, and folders on
your computer. In addition to these functions, a mouse can also be used
to drag-and-drop objects
and give you access to the right-click menu.
[3] Scanner :-
What Does Scanner Mean?
A scanner is an electronic device which can capture
images from physical items and convert them into digital formats, which in turn
can be stored in a computer, and viewed or modified using software
applications.
Different types of scanners are available with different
resolutions. In the world of electronic data transmission, scanning is
considered to be the most cost-effective and reliable way of transmitting
images.
[4] Microphone :-
A microphone is an input device that was developed by Emile Berliner in 1877. It is used to convert sound waves into electric waves or input the audio into computers. It captures audio by converting sound waves into an electrical signal, which may be a digital or analog signal. This process can be implemented by a computer or other digital audio devices. The first electronic microphone was based on a liquid mechanism, which used a diaphragm that was connected to a current- charged needle in a diluted sulfuric acid solution. It was not able to reproduce the intelligible speech.
[5] Touch Screen :-
Touch screen technology is the direct
manipulation type of gesture-based technology. Direct manipulation is the
ability to manipulate the digital world inside a screen. A Touch screen is an
electronic visual display capable of detecting and locating a touch over its
display area.
[6] TrackBall :-
Trackball is stationary, so it does not
require much space to use it. It is similar to trackball, but it can move in
six directions where trackball can move in two directions only. The movement is
recorded by the strain gauge. Strain gauge is applied with pressure.
Output Devices:-
The Computer Output Devices are the
critical units in the whole computer architecture, as it’s the only way to get
the results to the user after the required computations and operations are
complete.
[1] Moniter :-
A monitor is an electronic output device
that is also known as a video
display terminal (VDT) or a video display unit (VDU).
It is used to display images, text, video, and graphics information generated
by a connected computer via a computer's video card. Although it is almost like
a TV, its resolution is much higher than a TV. The first computer monitor was
introduced on 1
March 1973, which was part of the Xerox Alto computer system.
[2] Printer :-
In computing, a printer is a
peripheral machine which makes a persistent representation of graphics or text,
usually on paper. While most output is human-readable, bar code printers are an
example of an expanded use for printers.
The different types of
printers include 3D printer, inkjet printer, laser printer, thermal printer, etc.
[3] Speaker:-
A speaker
is a term used to describe the user
who is giving vocal commands to a software program. 2. A
computer speaker is an output hardware device that connects to a computer to
generate sound. The signal used to produce the sound that comes from a computer
speaker is created by the computer's sound card.
[4] Plotter :-
A plotter is
a computer hardware device much like a printer that is used for
printing vector graphics. Instead of toner, plotters use a pen,
pencil, marker, or another writing tool to draw multiple, continuous lines on
paper rather than multiple dots, like a traditional printer. Plotters produce
a hard copy of schematics and other similar applications. Though once
widely used for computer-aided design, these devices were more or less
phased out by wide-format printers.
